SUMMARY:Panel: The Diffusion of Defusion: Disseminating and promoting co
ntextual behavioral science through popular media
DESCRIPTION:Panel at ACBS World Conference 2022\, San Francisco\nAttend
my panel session "The Diffusion of Defusion: Disseminating and Promoting
Contextual Behavioral Science through Popular Media"\n\nFrom the most a
ccessible self-help books to the most abstruse research articles\, the C
BS community is growing rapidly. In recent years\, we’ve seen ACT and
CBS-based books become bestsellers\, podcasts become chart-toppers\, and
ACT concepts flourish in popular journalism and social media. With incr
easing ease of access and abundance of choice\, creating meaningful\, sc
ientifically-informed and diverse content has never been more important.
How can experts in the field more effectively reach the general public\
, so they can benefit from these concepts? This panel\, consisting of co
ntent creators (podcasters\, authors\, and social media content creators
) who are also researchers and/or therapists\, will incorporate a broad
range of experiences as they discuss the contextual behavioral underpinn
ings of dissemination — including the behavioral process involved in c
 reating user-friendly content\, content-consumption behavior\, and the p
rosocial behavior of disseminating evidence-based work. Panelists will d
iscuss the practical use of various dissemination tools for teaching\, l
earning\, and disseminating information about CBS\, ACT\, and related re
search and therapeutic approaches through accessible language and platfo
rms.\n\nEducational Objectives: \n\n Describe the role of podcasts and
media in disseminating Contextual Behavioral Science through accessible
platforms.\n Explain the behavioral mechanisms involved in creating an
d consuming media.\n Elucidate processes involved in disseminating equi
table\, diverse\, and prosocial information to mass populations.
