Turn Your Anger into Positive Energy
How can you channel your energy wisely when feeling helpless, overwhelmed, and angry? Are you curious about how to turn your anger into positive energy? In this episode of The Wise Effort Show, Dr. Diana Hill and Giulia Preziuso open a conversation that tackles this exact question and offers ways to shift those intense feelings into assertive and positive energy.
Understanding the Genius Behind Assertiveness
Giulia Preziuso, a trauma therapist, discusses cultivating assertiveness, a quality she considers one of her “strongest geniuses.” From childhood experiences of constant vigilance to adulthood filled with unpredictable emotions, Giulia shares her evolution from uncontrollable anger to grounded assertiveness.
“It took a lot of time, therapy, and practice,” Giulia reflects, emphasizing the importance of self-regulation and detachment from judgment.
Navigating Strong Emotions with DBT
Much of Giulia’s transformation came from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). She learned to recognize her physiological cues and practice techniques like cold-water immersion to control her physiological responses. Rather than battling anger, she embraced the need to understand and care for it.
Diana and Giulia remind us how critical it is to evaluate the stories we tell ourselves and to practice acceptance—both of others and ourselves. “Life is a series of disappointments,” says Diana. Yet, we can navigate these challenges without internal turmoil through understanding and acceptance.
