The Paradox of Feeling Overcommitted and Under Involved

Why are you overcommitted and, at the same time, feeling like you’re under involved and not doing enough? Often, we spend a lot of energy and output making beautiful things happen in our lives, and yet we feel unsatisfied with what we have. We feel like we need to do more, which is the case for many strivers. This a case I know so well personally, when I get myself tangled and ways I’m figuring out how to untangle.

There are psychological reasons why we overcommit. And yes, there are contextual reasons why we do this. There is too much to do.  But there are things you are doing that contribute to your over-commitment, and there are psychological reasons why you feel like you’re not doing enough.

In this two-part episode, we’re going to delve into this paradox. First, we’ll explore the five reasons why you overcommit and yet feel like you need to do more. I talk about the psychological and contextual reasons behind this paradox, including the myths of normalcy, the craving for more, the impact of our limiting stories, the avoidance of discomfort, and the misalignment with our values.

In the next episode, I will give you five solutions; five ways to use your energy wisely and actually feel satisfied with what you have.
